ABOUT ORDNANCE FACTORY AMBARNATH
Ordnance Factory Ambarnath is an established manufacturer with competence in defence production. Ordnance Factory Ambarnath (OFA) is one of the Ordnance Factories, operating under Yantra India Limited, Ministry of Defence. OFA was set up with core competence in the field of Non-Ferrous Metallurgical production and later on High Strength Aluminium Alloy Extruded products were added.
The Factory was established during the World War II period. While the construction commenced during 1942 the Production activities commenced during 1944. OFA is an important unit under Yantra India Limited, providing a unique combination of Metallurgical and Engineering facilities to meet up a variety of derived demands of various Ammunition group of factories. The Factory was initially set up with following major facilities:
The Ordnance Factory Ambarnath is headed by General Manager who is an Officer from Indian Ordnance Factory Services and assisted by Addl. General Managers and other senior officers of Group A belonging to Indian Ordnance Factory Service and other Group B Gazetted Officers.

Allocation of Work:
Ordnance Factory Ambarnath is a Defence production establishment established in 1944 and was working under Ordnance Factory Board till 30.09.2021. However, from 1.10.2021 the factory is working under Yantra India Limited established by the government as per O.M. No. 1(5)/2021/OF/DP(Plg-V)/01 dated 24.09.2021 of Department of Defence Production , Ministry of Defence Government of India.
Yantra India Limited is to carry out the duties and responsibilities regarding the objectives / businesses as set out in Annexures of the above OM in accordance with rules and such other directions as may be given by the Government of India from time to time. Accordingly, Ordnance Factory Ambarnath is functioning under Yantra India Limited Yantra India Limited.
Section 4(1)(b)(ii): the powers and duties of its officers and employees;
The officers and employees of the Ordnance Factory Ambarnath are governed by the provisions of the Constitution of India, the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, the Government of India (Transaction of Business) Rules, Instructions issued by various Nodal Ministries/Departments (e.g. the Cabinet Secretariat, Ministry of Personnel, Ministry of Finance, Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Rajya Sabha Secretariat etc.), Manual of Office Procedure, powers delegated at each level under various Rules and Regulations, Orders delegated by the Ministry of Defence, Departmental instructions, Security Instructions issued by the Ministry and Orders & policies issued by Yantra India Limited.

The Ordnance Factory Ambarnath maintains and handles a number of files, documents, Parliament Questions, Parliamentary Committees-related matters, Court Cases, RTI Applications, Service-related matters of its employees and the documents related to its activities in commercial and manufacturing of the defence stores as mandated by various orders of Yantra India Limited and Department of Defence Production.

The work allocated to the Ordnance Factory Ambarnath relates mainly to production of Defence equipment. The Factory does not have much direct dealing with the public.
