About Us

             Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli(OFT) was inaugurated by Late.Smt.Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India on 3rd July 1966 with a view to increase the capacity of Small Arms production. OFT started production with 9mm Carbines in 1967 and in 1970’s, OFT started manufacturing 7.62mm Rifles. Later during 1990’s this factory started manufacturing 12.7mm Air Defence Gun & 30mm Cannon and was elevated as a medium caliber weapon manufacturing unit supporting AV group of factories.

           OFT’s product range includes smalls arms (7.62 X 39mm Trichy Assault Rifle(TAR), 7.62mm SLR, 5.56mm INSAS, 0.315 Sporting Rifle), medium caliber weapons(12.7mm AD Gun, 30mm Cannon, 23mm Ghasha, 14.5/20mm AMR) and grenade launchers(40mm UBGL, 40mm MGL, 38mm MSL). OFT is also the nodal factory for manufacturing of Stabilised Remote Control Gun(SRCG) through ToT for Indian Navy & Indian Coast Guard.

           R&D projects in hand includes 7.62mm TriCa, 40X46mm UBGL for TAR/AK47, 7.62 X 54mm PKT and AGS-30. OFT has a strong in-house R&D set up and around 60% of turnover is from OFT’s R&D products.

           OFT is equipped with the most modern and sophisticated technology including CNC machines for manufacturing small arms and medium caliber weapons. State of the art dedicated facility exists for assembly and testing of prestigious SRCG project. OFT has all types of proof ranges/facility like open range, tunnels, grenade range, etc to test all products manufactured.

           OFT is an Integrated Management System(IMS) certified (IS0 9001 (QMS), ISO 14001(EMS) and ISO 45001(OHSAS)) unit. OFT is also accredited with ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS). OFT’s lab is NABL accredited for chemical and mechanical disciplines.  

VISION   

    1. To increase Value of Issue by 5 times in next 10 years and by 20 times in next 25 years from the average turnover of last 3 years i.e. Rs.160 Cr.

  1. To meet 10% of annual turnover through Export orders.
  2. To develop a new weapon in every 2-5 years through In-house R&D.
