Parachute Factory

Ordnance Parachute Factory is one of the 40 manufacturing units working under Ordnance Factory Board Kolkota (Ministry of Defence Production), Govt. of India. Ordnance Parachute Factory was established in the year 1941 at Kanpur (UP), India.
It started as a repair unit of Man Carrying Parachutes & thereafter commenced & established production of Supply Drop Parachutes & Military Uniforms in 1962. In 1970 production of personnel parachutes i.e. PTR-M & PTR-R was established. In 1971 production of floats for KM Bridge and inflatable boats was also established.

Key Milestone of OPF are :

1941 : Set up in KEM Hall, Phool Bagh, Kanpur.
1961 : Shifted to Napier Road, Cantt, Kanpur. Continued as a Parachute Repair Unit
1962 : Supply Drop Parachute and Uniforms for Army
1970 : Bulk Production of Man Carrying Parachutes (PTRM & PTRR)
1971 : Bulk Production of Float
1984 & 1989 : Bagged Best Ordnance Factory Efficiency Trophy
1995 : Production of PTAM & PTAR
1996 : Accredited with ISO-9001 Certification by EAQA-UK
1997 : National Award for Outstanding Employer for the Disabled presented by President of India
2000 : BNBC Suits. Brake Parachute MIG-29
2002 : Computerized Socks Knitting Machines (First step towards Modernization)
2003 : Accredited of ISO-9001:2000 by NQA-QSR. 10,000 NBCW Suits MK-I was supplied to Army in record time
2004 : Bullet Proof Jacket. NABL approval was obtained for accreditation of Laboratory. Accredited with ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) by AQSR India
2005 : Brake Parachute for Sukhoi-30 Aircraft
2007 : Heavy Drop Parachute for AN-32 Aircraft
2009 : Combat Free Fall (CFF) Parachute System with Life Support Accessories
2010 : Computerized Cloth Cutting Machine (CAD/CAM) installed
2011 : Productionisation of PSM Series Parachute
2013 : Productionisation of Paradrum
2015 : Crossed Milestone of Supply of 10000 Nos each of PTAM and PTAR
2016 : Produced 2 sets of P-7 Heavy Drop Parachute System for Army trials (in final stage)
2017 : QMS upgraded to ISO 9001: 2015
